As a nationality of Nigeria and a citizen of Kaduna state, you can study at any university of your choice within and outside the country through the KDSG scholarship initiative from the Kaduna State Government. KDSG Scholarship

The Kaduna State Government (KDSG Scholarship) scholarship is an initiative of the Kaduna State Government that is responsible for giving financial support and assistance to indigenes of Kaduna State studying both within and outside of the country.

The Kaduna State Scholarship and Loan Board is a governmental body set up by the Government to oversee and regulate this program. This committee ensures that scholarships are offered throughout the state and funds are awarded to eligible students.

The KDSG scholarship award is divided into two categories: 

#1. Local Scholarship Award:

The Local scholarship is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Nigerian universities, and it is further divided into two categories:

(i) Need-Based Scholarships

As a foundation for economic growth, the Kaduna State Government is particular about making sure that impoverished and disadvantaged students have equal chances to high-quality education. They believe that this kind of scholarship solely helps those who are less fortunate. However, the ability to give information about their Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Biometric Verification Number (BVN) is a major requirement for everyone applying for this award.

Other requirements include

  • A CGPA of 2.0 out of 5.0, or 1.6 out of 4.0
  • Must be a student with at least one semester remaining at the time of distribution.
  • Must not be a carry-over student.

Ensure that your parents (both) receive their tax certificates as soon as possible. But in the case that one or both of them are dead, make sure you get their death certificate instead of their tax certificate.

(ii) Merit-Based Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships, as the name implies, are financial incentives given to students depending on their achievement in academics, athletics, or extracurricular activities. They’re an excellent alternative for students with special talents or who have worked extremely hard in high school.

Scholarship requirements for merit-based scholarships include all except the CGPA is expected to be as high as 4.0 of 5.0 or 3.5 of 4.0. Also, Fresh students are required to provide evidence of a B- or better in at least five courses, including Mathematics and English, and a C for the other subjects taken in WASSCE or NECO

#2. Foreign Merit Award:

The Foreign Merit Award is for undergraduate and postgraduate studies outside of the country. It is divided into the following categories:

  • Merit-based,
  • Need-based
  • Disability,
  • Emerging skills fund, and
  • Sports-based scholarships.

(i) Requirement for Undergraduate Scholarships

Grade B for the remaining courses taken in one sitting of the WASSCE or NECO, and Grade A in a minimum of five subjects, including English and mathematics. Furthermore, applicants are required to get into a recognized university as a prerequisite for scholarship consideration.

(ii) Qualification for Postgraduate Scholarship

A first-class undergraduate degree is required for a master’s application
A Masters degree to pursue a PhD
Acceptance into a recognized university is a prerequisite for scholarship consideration.

Foreign Scholarship Requirements

Candidates for foreign scholarships are required to me the following conditions:

  • Nationality: Must be an indigene of Kaduna State and a citizen of Nigeria 
  • Income tax certificate: If your parents are deceased, you must provide a death certificate. If they are alive, you must produce their income tax.
  • Not open to carryover: You are not qualified to apply if you are a student who has gone beyond the time that you were supposed to graduate.
  • Letter of Admission: Students who have just been admitted must provide their acceptance letter.
  • Medical clearance: A medical clearance certificate from an authorized government hospital is required, along with a drug test.
  • Employer Letter of Release: If you are a member of the working class and would like to pursue postgraduate education, you need to get an employer letter of release.

Step 1. Visit the scholarship application portal. Visit the online application portal for information on the scholarship categories.
Step 2. Click on Apply. To begin the application process, go to scholarship and click apply.
Pick the Scholarship Category: Choose the scholarship category you want to apply for.
