In this article, you’ll learn about the hierarchy of the Nigerian immigration service as well as the salary structure for Nigerian graduates.

Nigerian Immigration Service

The Nigerian Immigration Service is a federal organization responsible for migration management in Nigeria. The Nigeria Immigration Service ranks its employees into three categories: commissioned officers and non-commissioned staff.

The Nigerian Immigration Service, a government body in charge of migration management in Nigeria, offers the following services:

  • The preparation of international passports
  • Visas processing
  • Convention travel papers,
  • Ecowas travel certificates,
  • Residence permits

The service features a progressive ranking structure, which means that individuals are promoted as they provide their best in the service. Similarly, the remuneration structure improves as one advances in the service.

The Hierarchy of Nigerian Immigration Service

Within the Nigerian Immigration Service, there are distinct levels. The Federal Comptroller General of Immigration (FCGI) has the highest level of service, while the Immigration Assistant holds the lowest rank. The FCGI is the most senior position in the service.

In the Nigerian Immigration Service, there are two different rank structures: the commissioned officers and the non-commissioned officers. Both of these systems are referred to as cadres. Within the officer rank structure framework, the Comptroller General of Immigration rank is the highest grade that can be achieved. The non-officer cadre, on the other hand, can only advance to the position of Director of Immigration, which is the highest in the hierarchy.

The ranks that fall within the commissioned rank system are as follows, along with an explanation of what each rank entails:

This is the highest-ranking officer in the hierarchy of the NIS. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appoints the only person who can hold the CGI position at any given time (4 years). They have been offered a contract that is for four years and can be renewed if they do well during the first term.

#2. Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration.

While there is only one individual to occupy the CGI position, there are a small number of officers who operate as assistants to the Comptroller General, which is the second-highest in the hierarchy of the NIS officer ranks. These officers report to the Comptroller General and are in charge of the primary branches of the NIS. Within the service, this rank continues to be the highest rank that may be achieved through promotion.

#3. Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration and Human Resources

This rank is the third one in the hierarchy of ranks that are available to commissioned officers working for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This rank is a component of the assistance that the Comptroller General of Immigration requires to fulfill their duties.

For the purpose of providing assistance with the fundamental duties of the DCI, this rank works in close collaboration with the Deputy Comptroller of Immigration.
